MEDOC has developed a new product for ESA’s Space Weather Portal (please register to access the portal): synchronous synoptic maps of photospheric intensity and magnetic field.

The MEDOC HelioViewer server has been updated. Among the visible changes: it is now possible to use the web app from a touchscreen, including a phone or tablet, and the web app now includes flare predictions. New datasets have been added and are also available in the JHelioviewer application: Solar Orbiter/EUI, GOES-R/SUVI, COSMO/KCor (Mauna Loa), PROBA2/SWAP, and Hinode/XRT.

In case your system (e.g. a recent Linux distribution) does not let you install Python packages such as our Sitools2 API client, you have to:

  •     either use the `–break-system-packages` option of `pip install` (although we advise against this)
  •     or install the client within the virtual environment you will use for your analysis.

The OSU Paris-Saclay IDOC Regional Expertise Center, which hosts MEDOC, becomes the 3rd French data center, after CDS and IFREMER, to obtain the CoreTrustSeal label. This certification rewards our efforts over the last few years to meet 16 fundamental requirements necessary for the recognition of certified data centers.

A slight modification in the CST codes for the IDL parts of versions 1.0 and 1.1 (in the formulas Xc and Yc) has been made. See the note in the “Fortran, IDL files and documentations” section.

Barbara Perri, who has been recently hired as Assistant Astronomer at CEA-AIM, will carry out part of her observation service for MEDOC. She will work initially on the archive of simulation datasets and participate in the development of products for space weather.

2D numerical radiative transfer codes (NLTE2D), developed at IRAP (Toulouse), have been published (with documentation and test cases input files) on the MEDOC page about Radiative transfer codes.

Wind-Predict simulations results of cosmic rays diffusion coefficients in the solar wind have been updated with files in Cartesian coordinates, for a better compatibility with all visualization software.

The EIT synoptic maps data set, available through our web interface and EPN-TAP, has been published in the VESPA virtual observatory.

The MEDOC HelioViewer server has been updated. This update has added some functionalities on the web interface. The RSS flux, YouTube video upload, and an issue with data ingestion to the features and events database have been repaired. The data gaps coming from the GSFC server downtime should be filled, please contact us if you still find missing data.

The SDO JSOC has made a correction to the observer longitude and latitude metadata, starting on 2020-12-03. Furthermore, the data-production and data-export pipelines will be updated again to make the FITS headers compliant with the standard. More information can be found on the JSOC website.

We have experienced some delays in retrieving SDO files in the last days, we have identified the issue and we are catching up now. Furthermore, the SDO server will be stopped on Thursday 18 June 2020 morning to put new hardware online.
